The time has come to celebrate. Easter is close at hand. The darkness is quickly falling away. And for what it represents to us, I think fireworks might be appropriate for Easter. He has risen indeed.

Day
This was the beginning of a very long day, actually a 40+ hour day, which means it was almost two days. We were sailing along the coast of Texas, and it was decided, unilaterally, which is how Captains make decisions, that we would not put in to port until we reached our destination. We leftContinue reading “Day”
Worship
Part of the confirmation education that I lead is visiting different congregations and learning about how their tradition fits into our United Methodist tradition. We visit an Episcopal church, a Catholic church and a Jewish synagogue, which is by far everyone’s favorite. The Rabbi there was first an educator, before she become the Rabbi, soContinue reading “Worship”
Thankful
These beautiful girls were about to offer thanks for the food we were about to receive at the end of a long weeks worth of work. They had been working along side us, pretty sure mostly laughing at how silly we grown folks were. I was thankful for them, and their willingness to put upContinue reading “Thankful”
Prayer
Behind my family church is this prayer garden. It has a pond, a small chapel, flowers and trees, and it is beautiful. The congregation celebrates Easter Sunrise service there, and has held more than a couple of memorials there. I have conducted a couple of weddings out there, attended a few fishing rodeos, volunteered inContinue reading “Prayer”
Sacrifice
This is breakfast. In an exotic country, relatively far from home. It is not all that different from the breakfast that I eat in my home most mornings. But this breakfast represents a pretty big sacrifice. This breakfast was put together by the women of a small church in Mexico. I was there with aContinue reading “Sacrifice”
Habit
Interestingly enough I didn’t have a single image that related to habit, at least for me. Says a little something about my habit of taking all sorts of images. I have set aside this year to rearranging habits, to jettison some of the not quite good ones, and pick up some that may serve better.Continue reading “Habit”
Listen
This was Lily, my anxious boxer. We walked most morning. For me it was exercise, for Lily it was socializing and hunting. Lily fancied herself a great hunter of rabbits. From my perspective, we stood a lot staring at rabbits, but it was important to her. A curious teamship evolved between the two of us.Continue reading “Listen”
Confess
I confess I have big dreams. Wild dreams. Some of them are way out there, and others are a bit more practical. Many are just that, dreams. Things I like to play with in my mind. Others are sensible enough that they will come true. Others, probably the best ones, require effort and care toContinue reading “Confess”
Health
About a year ago, on April 1st (April Fool’s day), I took up running. Yeah, the day was not lost on me. I took up running to create stamina for my upcoming pilgrimage, but never expected to enjoy it as much as I did. I have set some pretty lofty goals for me with regardsContinue reading “Health”
